How to choose a suitable laser cutting head

1. Roughness: The laser cut part will form vertical lines whose depth determines the roughness of the cut surface. The lighter the line, the smoother the cut. Roughness affects not only the appearance of the edge, but also the friction properties. In most cases, the roughness needs to be as low as possible, so the shallower the grain, the better the cut.

2. Material deposition: The laser cutting machine encounters a layer of oil-containing special liquid on the surface of the workpiece before melting and perforating. During the cutting process, the customer blows the cut out with wind due to vaporization and the use of various materials, but the upward or downward discharge also forms deposits on the surface.

3. Depression and Corrosion: Recession and corrosion adversely affect the cutting edge surface and affect appearance. They appear in cutting mistakes that should generally be avoided.

4. Burr: The formation of burr is a very important factor in determining the quality of laser cutting. Because deburring requires extra work, the severity and number of burrs can directly determine the quality of the cut.

5. Areas affected by heat: In laser cutting, the area near the incision is heated. At the same time, the structure of the metal has also changed. For example, some metals will harden. Heat-affected zone refers to the depth of the area where the internal structure changes.

6. Verticality: how the thickness of the metal plate exceeds 10mm, the verticality of the cutting edge is very important. When moving away from the focal point, the laser beam becomes divergent and widens towards the top or bottom depending on the position of the focal point. The cutting edge is a few millimeters off the vertical, and the more vertical the edge, the better the quality of the cut.

7. Deformation: If the cutting causes the part to heat up sharply, deformation will occur. This is especially important in finishing, where profiles and connections are usually only a few tenths of a millimeter wide. Controlling laser power and using short laser pulses can reduce component heating and avoid deformation.

8. Cutting width: Generally speaking, the cutting width will not affect the cutting quality. The cutting width only plays an important role when creating particularly precise contours inside the part. This is because the cutting width determines the minimum inner diameter of the profile. As the thickness of the board increases, so does the cutting width. Therefore, in order to guarantee the same high precision, the workpiece should remain constant within the machining area of the laser cutting machine, regardless of the width of the kerf.

9. Texture: When cutting thick plates at high speed, the molten metal will not appear in the cut below the vertical laser beam, but will be emitted at the back of the laser beam. As a result, a curve is formed at the cutting edge, and the line closely follows the moving laser beam. To correct this problem, reducing the feed rate at the end of the cutting process can greatly eliminate line formation.
