As laser technology develops, manual focusing will eventually be phased out and autofocus capabilities, such as high-performance and high-speed laser cutting machines, will develop. So, some would say that the optical path is integrated in the cutting head, simply change the height of the laser, isn't it? The cutting head is raised, the focus position is high, and the cutting head is low, the focus position is low. However, it turns out that it is not as simple as everyone thought.

The bottom of the cutting head is the nozzle. During the cutting process, the distance between the nozzle and the workpiece (nozzle height) is about 0.5 or 1.5mm, which can be considered as a fixed value, that is, the nozzle height does not change, so it cannot be focused by raising the laser head.


The focal length of the focusing lens cannot be changed, so it is impractical to focus by changing the focal length. If the focal position of the mirror is changed, the corresponding focal position changes: when the focusing lens is lowered, the focus is lowered, and when the focusing lens is increased, the focus is increased. It's really a way of focusing. Autofocus is achieved using a focus lens drive motor for up and down movement. Another method is automatic focusing: before the beam enters the focusing lens, variable curvature mirror group (or adjustable mirror), by changing the curvature of the mirror, changing the divergence angle of the reflected beam, and changing the focus position. With the auto-focus function, when processing workpieces of different materials and different thicknesses, the NC machine relies on fast and automatic adjustment of the focus to the appropriate position. This can significantly improve the processing efficiency of the high-speed laser cutting machine, and the plate perforation time will be greatly reduced.
