Detailed explanation of gear laser welding operation

Gears are widely used in automobile manufacturing, medical equipment, machinery manufacturing, aerospace and other fields. The welding process of the gear directly affects the product performance. The traditional welding process has shortcomings such as large heat input and easy deformation, which cannot meet the high precision requirements of gears. Both vacuum electron beam welding and laser welding can meet the requirements of gear welding process. Vacuum electron beam welding requires a vacuum environment, the efficiency is low, the equipment is expensive, and it is not suitable for industrial production. Therefore, it is more suitable to use laser welding for gear welding, and the laser welding process has become an important condition for gear welding applications.


After the high energy density spot of the fiber laser acts on the surface of the material, a large aspect ratio (ratio of weld penetration to penetration width) can be obtained. Through appropriate process adjustment, the deformation of the gear after welding is small, and no subsequent processing is required. The clearance requirement of laser welding assembly is one of the main reasons for limiting its application, and the gear assembly is an interference fit, so the clearance fit requirement can basically be ignored during the welding process.

A Raycus RFL-C1500 laser was used to conduct the welding test, and the gears were pre-welded, and the weld penetration and width were obtained at different welding speeds. Part of the weld morphology is shown in the figure. It can be seen from the figure that the welding seam is obviously "nail-shaped", there is no obvious welding heat affected zone, and the welding seam has no defects such as pores and cracks, which can meet the requirements of most gear welding processes.
