Although ultrasonic welding machines and laser head welding machines can be used in aviation, ships, automobiles, electrical appliances, packaging, toys, electronics, medical equipment, packaging, auto parts, fishing gear, textiles and other industries, they are relatively easy to distinguish. However, the difference between the working principle and the welding material is very clear.




1. Working principle

Laser welding machines use high-energy laser pulses to locally heat the material in a small area, and the energy of the laser radiation diffuses into the material through thermal conduction, thereby melting the material and forming a specific molten pool.


Ultrasonic welding uses an ultrasonic generator to convert 50/60 Hz current into 15, 20, 30 or 40 KHz electrical energy. The converted high-frequency electrical energy is again converted into mechanical motion of the same frequency by the transducer, and then the mechanical motion is transmitted to the welding head through a set of horn devices that can change the amplitude. The welding head transfers the received vibrational energy to the joint part of the workpiece to be welded, and in this area the vibrational energy is converted into thermal energy by friction, melting the plastic.




2. Their respective advantages

Ultrasonic welding machine has the advantages of high speed, energy saving, high fusion strength, good electrical conductivity, no spark, near cold working and so on. It can be used for similar metal welding, and can be used for spot welding and multi-point short strip welding of single and thin non-ferrous metals (such as copper, silver, aluminum and nickel). It can be widely used for welding of various shapes, such as connecting parts of fuse-type lithium batteries.


Laser welding machine is a new welding method. Laser welding machines are mainly used for welding thin-walled materials and precision parts. It can realize spot welding, butt welding, lap welding, sealing welding, etc. It has high aspect ratio, small welding width, small heat affected zone, small deformation, fast welding speed and smooth and beautiful welding. Processing or simple processing is required after welding, high welding quality, no air holes, accurate control, small focus, high positioning accuracy, and easy automation.




3. Main Differences

Ultrasonic metal spot welding machine is suitable for welding thinner products. It can be used for welding of the same metal, but also for single-point and multi-point short strip welding of thin non-ferrous metals such as copper, silver, aluminum and nickel. It can be widely used for welding of various shapes, such as connecting parts of fuse-type lithium batteries.


However, it has been confirmed that the welding process parameters of the laser welding machine for single-pass welding of 32mm plate thickness are qualified, which can reduce the time required for thick plate welding and even save the use of filler metal. Laser welding machines can weld various materials or join various dissimilar materials to each other. If through-hole soldering is used, the aspect ratio of the weld can be as high as 10:1
